Ignor/e/ance

Generally speaking I think the best response to a KKK rally is to ignore it. It’s the same thing I do to Fred Phelps—of the infamous “God Hates Fags” website.

I point this out today, because over in Jena there is a Neo-Nazi rally.

My initial gut reaction to hearing that there was a Neo-Nazi rally was to suggest that ignoring the punks was the best solution. My solution is not the one that Jena has chosen—instead there is a large anti-Neo-Nazi counter-protest going on.

As one of my colleagues explained it, Germans cannot afford to ignore the Neo-Nazis—they must be countered, even though my colleague clearly had nothing to do with the Holocaust.

Not being a citizen, I can afford to ignore the Neo-Nazis—staying home and doing chores. Since waking, I’ve completed five loads of laundry so far, and the sixth is in the dryer as we speak.

I’m still not certain what I would do if I were a citizen.

  • Years ago I went to an anti-klan rally. My reason was a personal one: for my children and their friends.

I didn’t want them to see Klan leaders walking through the city and get the impression no one cared, or worse, that people agree with their hate.
