Destination Unknown

Throughout the last several years, conservatives tired of listening to liberals suggest that perhaps America needs some adjustments and new leadership have uttered that wonderful challenge, “If you don’t love America, why don’t you get out?”

It’s implied that the destination can be Canada with its high taxes and horrid universal healthcare, Sweden with its high taxes and awful welfare state, or one of the other high-tax awful countries of the world with unpleasant services like decent public transit, separation of church and state, or some equally horrid nightmarish problem like heavy unionization enforcing quality working conditions and/or licensed plumbing.

Now I realize it is a bit odd for me, an American not living in America, to make my next challenge, but I would like to make a challenge to America’s religious right: If you don’t love America, why don’t you get out and give up your citizenship, whilst you are at it? I know that you are convinced that if Obama wins in November that America will be damaged beyond repair for an eternity. I just got a note from the AFA warning me:

If the liberals win the upcoming election, America as we have known it will no longer exist. This country that we love, founded on Judeo-Christian values, will cease to exist and will be replaced by a secular state hostile to Christianity. This “city set on a hill” which our forefathers founded, will go dark. The damage will be deep and long lasting. It cannot be turned around in the next election, or the one after that, or by any election in the future. The damage will be permanent.

Given that the damage will be permanent, I strongly urge you to just give up your citizenship and start searching for a better place to leave. Now I realize what you are looking for is a tall order: you want a Pro-Life, Anti-Gay-Marriage, Low-Tax, No Universal Healthcare, and Right-to-Work Theocracy where women, other than Sarah Palin, are at home, pregnant and in the kitchen.

The countries that fit that order are few and far between. According to my short list, Iran is probably your best bet.

Wait! I suppose you’re looking for a Christian Nation, so I can recommend the Vatican instead.

Too bad it’s Catholic, and that it’s governed by an organization that condones and facilitates pedophilia.

Meanwhile I will continue to be a patriotic American, paying my taxes, and voting for the candidates who I think will make America and the world a better place.

Meanwhile, you can see what Republican Religious Types think. It’s kind of scary.

  • No, it’s not “kinda scary” — it’s VERY scary!!!

It was the Religious Right that called for the crucifixion of Christ so many years ago. Todays fundamentalists see a spook under every rock but they need to look in the mirror. To see what it is like when the Religious Right gets control let’s look at Iraq. Under Saddam Hussein the Catholics and others evangelized the country but now they dare not show their face or they will be stoned to death. I’m sure there are those who would like to stone every Gay and every non-white but in the America were I live all are welcome. ed

  • When did Obama ever say white people are trash? Or that he is muslim? I am soooo shocked! I cant believe this is true – and sadder they are from Ohio, my home state. But we put Bush in the second time, so am I surprised?

  • shit, that scared the hell out of me!
