Trains

I wish I had something witty to talk about today, but I don’t.

This afternoon I got a nasty headache and ended up wishing I’d caught the 15:08 train instead of the 16:08.

This brings me to a random observation: This Sunday night the new train schedule for the next year takes effect and I finally looked at it closely with a colleague from the office. Both of us are a bit dismayed because there are two types of trains between Weimar and Jena: Local trains that stop at all three stations between the two cities and “Express” trains that do not stop at all.

Under the current schedule, the local trains take 21 minutes and express trains take about 14 minutes.

Somehow, under the upcoming schedule, the express trains from Weimar to Jena will take a minimum of 17 minutes, and as long as 22 minutes, while the local trains will take 22 minutes.

Now explain to me how the express train, which does not stop at all, is going to take the same length of time to get from Weimar to Jena as the local?

This is not an improvement.

I kind of like the current schedule, which lets me spend Friday night in Erfurt and come home at 4:19 in the morning-because starting next week, that first train’s at 6:10-almost two extra hours to party in Erfurt, trying to stay awake.

I’m hoping that I’m wrong.

Wow now the first train is at 0600 or something… it’s so much fun nursing a hangover at rush hour. 🙂
