I fly.

As most of you are aware, I have quite a bit of traveling ahead of me in the coming weeks-so much so that I’m not certain my body will actually know what time zone it’s in until March!

Just to refresh you:

17 December: Train to Prague, Meeting with Professor
18 December: Prague-Amsterdam-Detroit-Denver
30 December: Denver-Detroit-Amsterdam
31 December: Amsterdam-Prague
02 January: Train to Weimar
04 January: Weimar-Frankfurt-Newark-New Orleans
09 January: Return to Frankfurt
10 January: Arrival in Frankfurt/Weimar/Jena
14 January: Weimar-Frankfurt-Detroit-Indy-Bloomington
19 January: Return to Frankfurt
20 January: Arrival in Frankfurt/Weimar/Jena
01 February: Train to Amsterdam
03 February: Return from Amsterdam

Anyhow, in case you had overlooked it, we’ve made a minor mistake with the planning of the trip to Bloomington-currently the seminar I’m supposed to help present is going to be on Monday. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.

Ooooops. Fortunately my portion of the work can be rescheduled to Tuesday, so it’s not such a big deal, but it is still kind of a surprise. What’s funny was that nobody had noticed the timing problems. It wasn’t until I was putting my freshly made appointment to see the dentist in Bloomington on my Outlook Calendar that I noticed the potential conflict.

Less happy, at least for me, was a recent trip to the web site for Kai Tracid – the German Trance/Acid DJ whom I would like to see in person. He’s going to be playing in Erfurt in January. Unfortunately it’s going to be January 8th, and I’m going to be in New Orleans. I’ll just have to hope that our stars align sometime soon.

In other travel notes: I am thinking about a weekend trip to either Riga (Latvia) or Tallinn (Estonia) in February-the not so prime time of year to visit, but still worthwhile. Both cities are easily accessible via easyJet from Berlin for fairly inexpensive prices. I need to do some research on places to stay-both there and in Berlin. Unfortunately flight timings will require me to spend either the night before or after the trip in Berlin.

My easy London connection will soon be history. And as far as I know, the Erfurt Airport still doesn’t know that the flight is going to end in January. The only reason I found out was that I called RyanAir (the airline that prefers you don’t call them), and said, “I just searched a lot of different dates in April and I find it unlikely that all your flights have sold out already.” The person on the other end had to do some quick research and she announced that the last day for the flight would be in February. When I asked for a specific date, thinking I would make a quick trip into London at some point, she did a bit more searching and said, “Ooops, I was wrong. It’s in January. January 18th to be exact.” Unfortunately, given my pre-existing travel plans, I won’t be visiting London for quick weekend trips anytime soon.

That said, I will have to hit a meeting in London in early April, and then will be in Bloomington in early May for another meeting. That one will be fun since it will be competing with graduation weekend. Hopefully I won’t have to stay in a dump.

Hmmm travel… and I thought going up to New York and back from North Carolina made me experience lack of sleep.
