Martin Luther …

Over the weekend I met a guy who informed me that as far as his family could tell, they were blood-related to Martin Luther, which I thought was pretty cool, all things considered.

So yesterday afternoon I was chatting with somebody back in the States and I mentioned this cool thing.

The response from the states?

“Is he black?”

“No. He is actually kind of a peachy-pink color…”

Sheesh, people here are so dumb!

With apologies to the person that I just offended. 😉

  • I’m surprised that the person you chatted with didn’t know Martin Luther- after all, he’s only one of the most famous individuals in Western history :). Alas, his ignition of the Reformation is perhaps shadowed a bit by his vehement anti-Semitism, and the modern Lutheran church has had to distance itself from some of his writings…

  • Chris, the guilty party does not know about my blog. I’ve never met him in person, but he wants to “meat” me.

When I was in 10th grade European history class, I experienced something similar. When we got to the part about the Reformation, there was a picture of Martin Luther in the textbook. A particularly clueless student in class raised her hand and asked the teacher in a confused voiced, “Wasn’t Martin Luther black?”
