The SMS Messages

Ok, so I’ve received several requests to justify why I wasn’t interested in… S. S is the guy from last friday night who thought I was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Ultimately I was never attracted to him. He got me last Friday night because he appeared in front of me and asked me to dance. It was definately a boost to the ego–I cannot deny that, but he was 20 and one of the first things he told me (shortly after I gave him my mobile number) was that two weeks prior to our meeting he had fallen in love with his straight best friend. The coffin lid started to lower at that point.

At little bit later he confessed that he needed a break because his smoker’s lungs needed a rest from dancing–since I wasn’t really attracted to him, this didn’t help his cause.*

I was still willing to give him a shot until I received the following SMS at 12:30 Saturday:

Was it just a dream? I don’t hope so. Do you want to see me again? Sorry so much to tell. The fire of uncertainty. i enjoyed it yesterday. I hope you did did so, too. I wanna see you again. If it is too much for you you don’t need to answer. bye. **

It took me 9 hours to decide how to answer this SMS. My answer was something like “Hi S, I am glad you had fun Friday night, I did too. Unfortunately I do not share the same feelings you do. I hope you understand. Adam”

Either the SMS didn’t go, or he ignored receiving it, sending me the following SMS last Saturday night:

Hey adam, i am kind of sad you did not answer my message. I actually thought we could meet again. maybe next friday at the etc or something. I’d be very glad to see you cuz i think you are a nice guy and i want to get to know you a little closer. See you.

Sunday I resent my previous SMS, chainging the text to reflect the fact that we’d met Friday, not “last night.”

This got the following response:

Well i do. i was just fascinated by you. You are a very interesting man and it has nothing to do with love or something. I’d like to meet you again. How about?

I responded that I didn’t have time this week (and I didn’t), and that next week I am in The Netherlands (and I am).

*I told him at this time I was a good American (I don’t smoke) and a bad fag (I don’t smoke). My general European stance toward this is that I’m willing to overlook smoking if a guy is attractive. Certainly I did so in Budapest and have done so elsewhere. However if the guy is marginal, smoking will not help.

**I may have inserted typographical errors. Unfortunately I somehow deleted the SMS–and I swear I didn’t do it intentionally!

For those of you who get this far, I posed a question based off of my problem to “Ask the Hag” on the UFN Show last week. The crew answered my question on this week’s show, episode #45. ((listen directly)) — in the last 8 or 9 minutes of the show.

Why do these lyrics from and old Blondie song come to mind?

One way or another I’m gonna find ya
I’m gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I’m gonna win ya
I’m gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I’m gonna see ya
I’m gonna meetcha meetcha meetcha meetcha
    One day, maybe next week
I’m gonna meetcha, I’m gonna meetcha, I’ll meetcha
I will drive past your house
And if the lights are all down
    I’ll see who’s around

One way or another I’m gonna find ya
I’m gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I’m gonna win ya
    I’ll getcha, I’ll getcha
One way or another I’m gonna see ya
I’m gonna meetcha meetcha meetcha meetcha
    One day, maybe next week
    I’m gonna meetcha, I’ll meetcha

And if the lights are all out
    I’ll follow your bus downtown
    See who’s hanging out

For some reason, it doesn’t seem disturbing at all when Blondie is singing about it. But when someone who is attracted to you does the same, it’s totally frightening! Heh.

  • Introversion Sucks

It’s strange—I have a shell and I find it immensely difficult to crack it. Similar to the shyness described recently by the CQ, I too find myself fleeing office birthday parties as soon as I reasonably can—avoiding small talk. I’ve…
