Today, by chance, I stumbled upon the Berlin Firefighter Challenge at Potsdammer Platz. I was actually on my way home after doing a little bit of shopping (I bought a new Crumpler bag), riding the bus when I saw the activity and decided to get off the bus.
Boy am I glad I did: the competition was fun to watch, although I couldn’t stay as long as I wanted because I am going to another competition tonight (which, I suspect, will have a lot more alcohol involved).
The competition involved a number of steps, each accomplished with the firefighter fully dressed in their working uniform, wearing an oxygen tank, heavy coat, ventilator, and boots. Lucky for the firefighters, it wasn’t that hot out today.
If you pop the slideshow below into full screen and click on “show info” (top right), you see the race in, vague, general order. I’ve assembled a number of different competitors in order to create this one composite sequence.
