18:00 CET: I took the (cute) bus to downtown Laramie

Gem City Grand Bus Route

It’s Thursday in Laramie, Wyoming, and I decided to go downtown to do a little shopping and a little coffee drinking – and while I could have driven downtown in, uh, give or take 5 minutes, I took the Gem City Grand Bus Route – which, between my hotel and downtown, makes 5 stops along a rather circuitous route.

A five minute wait (I like to be early to bus stops), plus a 17 minute ride later, I was downtown where parking is plentiful and free, and not much has changed since I graduated.

I did a minimal amount of wandering around downtown Laramie before popping into the Coal Creek Coffee Company’s downtown location – it was the first location for this two-store chain, and it has a hell of a lot more charm than the location that’s a three minute walk from my hotel. Strip shopping centers suck.

I will admit that my prize possession from this shopping trip were two buttons promoting Obama 2012 – and while I’m sure Obama is going to get run over in Wyoming, I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, Obama has a chance in Indiana. That’s why I recently registered to get an absentee ballot after having expressed my doubts about voting last fall.

Given that this is Wyoming, there’s a lot of camouflage around – I almost didn’t see this gem:

Following up on yesterday’s photo: I went to the game and, unfortunately, Wyoming lost to Air Force despite having run up a somewhat commanding lead early in the first half of 12 to 2. I was, apparently, one of only 4,881 people in the stands – which seems incredibly small to me. I’m sure there were crowds that small when I was a student at UW, but I don’t ever recall it feeling quite so sparse, and the student section seemed, to be blunt, pathetic.

That said, it’s hard to see pictures and updates of the Cowboys from Germany – I don’t diligently follow the news, so a lot of stuff is a surprise to me, like, for example, Luke Martinez (#25), a junior on the Cowboys – he might well be my future husband.
