If I cared about football, then I’d be upset…
In the last eight years, since I last attended a professional football match here in Germany, my love for the beautiful game has not really increased.
I’ve come to dread the World Cup and the Euro football tournament. It’s the only time that the large masses of Germans go from being generally predictable to drunken, noisy, fans.
That said, I’ve decided that if I were to actually care about football, there are two teams that I would actually care about, St. Pauli and Celtic.
Celtic was in town last night, playing a friendly against 1. FC Union, and since, if I cared about football I would care about Celtic, I headed off to see the match, standing with the guest fans at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. There I was surrounded by tons of green and white (reminding me of high school) and, as well, St. Pauli fans. The guest fan block was filled to capacity and boisterous for the Bhoys.
Although Fraser Forster, the Celtic goalie, is smoking hot, he either is a bad goalie or was having an off night: Celtic lost 3:0.
The good news is that I don’t actually care about football, so the fact that I was cheering for the losing team didn’t really affect me.
