Thoughts for today: Today marks the 15th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was clueless about this anniversary until noonish when I got an email reminding me that today was the day. It’s also the anniversary of at least two other significant events in German history-one relating (sort-of) to Weimar and makes searching for current information about Weimar on the web difficult (Establishment of the Weimar Republic) and the other was a rather unpleasant episode that foreshadowed worse things to come when you get right down to it (Kristallnacht).
On a contemporary note, today is the first day of snow for the season. A couple of people I talked to had never seen snow before in their life. It was the really wet kind of snow-large and wet flakes that melted immediately upon impact on the ground outside my office window, but stuck to the ground in the rural areas between Jena and Weimar. In Weimar, cars were covered with snow and many of the streets were rather slushy this evening.
hi
what was P.’s reaction?
Odd, today was our first frost of the season; two weeks later than normal. Now I have to go find an ice scraper for the car. Now that the time is changed and I am getting to work on time, I don’t want to start getting in late because I have to wait for the window to defost.
No snow here yet, but its in the forecast.
