I will readily admit that I am not particularly religious-and that I am anti-religious in one respect (one of the United Methodist Churches in Denver has annoyed me so much that I am anti-that church and its members). However, I am not anti-religious to the point that I am opposed to religion. Religion is both a force for good and bad in this world.
Of late we’ve mostly seen examples of bad religion at work: See Osama Bin Laden, Pat Robertson, and George W. Bush as prime examples.
However, it was revealed yesterday that in the United States the United Church of Christ is trying to be… uh… well… inclusive!
I find it interesting that a church would try to market themselves as inclusive of all people with television ads-and although I personally wouldn’t start attending their church because of such ads, I would applaud their inclusiveness.
Unfortunately promotion of such inclusiveness has been rejected by CBS, NBC, and ABC. It seems that the inclusiveness promoted by the ad, which, by my viewing, includes both a gay and a lesbian couple, was objectionable to the networks. In fact CBS stated:
Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other minority groups by other individuals and organizations, and the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast on the [CBS and UPN] networks. |
When the hell was CBS, and the other broadcast networks, bought by Idiot-In-Chief-W and the Republican White House?!
Ironically the Fox network is airing the ad – a sister network of the “fair and balanced” Fox News Channel.
News like this depresses me. I vote in a Jesusland state, yet I yearn to be part of the United States of Canada. I wonder why so many Amerikans want to force their version of religion onto the rest of us. I wonder why so many Amerikans believe that I’m going to Hell and then actively try to tell this to me.
I also wonder why I never seem to meet these people. These people are never sitting next to me on airplanes; I don’t seem see them at the same bus stops I’m at when I’m in America, and they aren’t the DJs that I hear when listening to the radio.
I must try not to despair.

Kudos to the military for lying to CNN too… (or via Truthout)
Well I couldn’t go without commenting about the PSYOP that the military played on CNN, especially since that was the unit I was assigned to when I was in the military.
I’m glad that a network got caught by it. They need to learn that things need to be verified before they go spouting it off as the truth. Ah, the ratings race at its finest. 🙂
Censorship … brought to you by our great democracy.
nice. don’t you just love the ‘selective’ “morality” of the dickheads in power? feh.
Adam, see more about religion+homosexuality in my journal entry for today (Dec 3). A sad story, alas…
