Ok, so I’ve been in Amsterdam since Tuesday afternoon, and I’m having a good time. The point of the trip, today’s meeting, was productive and interesting, although we ran out of time.
I did go see a movie–“The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.” English with Dutch Subtitles. I can read more Dutch now, and the translation isn’t perfect–as one might expect.
After the movie I went out to a gay bar that was having a Kareoke night–lots of fun watching people sing, including a fair number of songs I’d never heard of because I don’t speak French, Spanish, or some other language I couldn’t identify. I could have written one of the French songs whose sole lyric seemed to be “La.” Many times. The Irishman next to me confessed during the first French song he didn’t speak French, and then during the 2nd one said, “I can speak French!” He was very excited.
Randomly, one of the southern Dutch localities–the local council of Wadinxveen in Zuid-Holland will no longer provide emergency care for injuried animals under 20 centimeters in length.
