People

Yesterday while at the KaDeWe, I needed something to read whilst having lunch, so I picked up a copy of People because it had a photo of Johnny Carson on the cover.

I never really thought I would miss him, but I do–so I was curious what People had to say.

Not much, as it turned out. They did devote a number of pages to him, but it left me wanting more.

So I flipped through the rest of the magazine only to realize that there was nothing else about Johnny.

I did get to read a long spread about the man who fires people getting married. People told us all about his current wife’s outfit–the old (old rosary beads, carried), the new (28 seamstresses spending 1,000 hours making a US$100,000 Wedding dress with 1,500 rhinestones), the borrowed (the diamond necklace), and the blue (her lingerie).

They kissed three times and the bride is quoted as saying, “We completely forgot everything around us. It was just us two. It was beautiful.”

Excuse me interrupting here, but I have to say riiiiiiiiiiiight.

You forgot?

I felt ill when I read that sentence.

It really is People–I’ve never really read it, and now I probably will never read it again.

Why is American journalism so horrible, and why is Jon Stewart, a comedian, the best one out there?

Something’s rotten.
