Yesterday I headed out to DM with an office colleague.
I was in need of tissue.
I’ve used a lot recently.
So we’re examining the tissues for sale and I grabbed a box of tissue–and she pointed out that I was an American, since Germans prefer packages of tissue packets. Packets each contain ten tissues and are plastic wrapped for easy carrying.
I pointed out that boxes of tissue cost less.
I was wrong. In Germany, it’s much less expensive to buy tissue that has a lot more packaging. 300 tissues, wrapped into packages of ten and further bundled into one big plastic wrapped package cost considerably less per tissue than one big box.
Naturally I’m a convert.
But I remain puzzled. Germans love the environment, yet the tissue they prefer to use puts a lot more plastic in the landfill.
Odd.
