Bend it Like Beckham

On my way out of London, I hopped the 7:00 Stansted Express. Having taken the train several times before, I headed to the front of the train knowing that it would take me away from the crowds and closer to the elevator that would take me from the train platforms to departures.

The forward most […]

Wir sind Papst!

This morning I stopped by the newsstand in the train station to see what the newspapers said.

All the daily papers had a picture of the new pope, and Bild, one of the lesser quality national newspapers had the above headline, which I thought I couldn’t understand at first. I mean, are my friends really […]

I’m Beat

Today I returned from London to Weimar.

I flew RyanAir from London Stansted to Altenberg, which involved getting up and leaving at 6 from London. Everything was fine until I got through immigration.

The bus didn’t leave until 12:45 and didn’t get to the Altenberg Train Station until 13:00. 10 minutes after my preferred train […]

Frankfurt’s #1 Newsstand

Want to make money in Frankfurt?

Own the newsstand down the block from the US Consulate.

Why?

The US Consulate won’t let in electronics, so I had to pay the newsstand to watch my mobile for 2€.

I was glad when I was done with the Consulate. I didn’t feel safe there.

On the one […]

Consoling Consoles

Ah… Today was an interesting day.

Every single time I thought I was getting ahead, and in fact was, I would get more work. There were a couple of times I had managed to clear my desk completely of work related to the journal I manage, only to receive more work related to it 15 […]

Pisser

My Pissing Trifeca in the last month:

Rotterdam: 10pm Thursday Evening last month, walking down street, guy cuts in front of me about 15 feet up, unzips and starts peeing on building in front of me. Asks me if I have a cigarette.

Jena: 4pm, two weeks ago, walking to train station, guy on phone […]

Day of Silence

One of my proudest moments in teaching was when one of my more conservative students asked me on the Day of Silence if class was going to be cancelled.

It made me very happy, although I didn’t cancel class and I did talk.

Quick London Summary

I haven’t really talked much about London because I’ve been too busy proofreading to get around to writing anything up. Today I finished Chapter 3—although it was a struggle since I was tired of it.

Anyhow, Lufthansa declined to let me board an earlier flight without paying a fee, so I was stuck on the […]

Busy…

I am trying to finish proofreading chapters for a book. As such, I will not be blogging tonight when I get home.

Will blog tomorrow.
