Martin Luther … Over the weekend I met a guy who informed me that as far as his family could tell, they were blood-related to Martin Luther, which I thought was pretty cool, all things considered.
So yesterday afternoon I was chatting with somebody back in the States and I mentioned this cool thing.
The response from the states?
“Is he black?”

“No. He is actually kind of a peachy-pink color…”
Sheesh, people here are so dumb!
With apologies to the person that I just offended. 😉
I’m surprised that the person you chatted with didn’t know Martin Luther- after all, he’s only one of the most famous individuals in Western history :). Alas, his ignition of the Reformation is perhaps shadowed a bit by his vehement anti-Semitism, and the modern Lutheran church has had to distance itself from some of his writings…
Chris, the guilty party does not know about my blog. I’ve never met him in person, but he wants to “meat” me.
When I was in 10th grade European history class, I experienced something similar. When we got to the part about the Reformation, there was a picture of Martin Luther in the textbook. A particularly clueless student in class raised her hand and asked the teacher in a confused voiced, “Wasn’t Martin Luther black?”
