This is going to be an exciting weekend!
Friday evening I am going over to Erfurt for three exciting events-the first is my journey to see the CDU candidate for German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
Yes, Germany is in the midst of an exciting election campaign, and although I have no vote whatsoever, I am watching it. As I described when I saw Gerhard Schröder, I have found the campaign to be quite unlike anything I’ve seen in the States, principally because the sitting Chancellor is not treated like a precious egg.
Bush, of course, was protected from people who were slightly ambivalent about his policies: they just weren’t allowed to show up.
So, I will be in the middle of Angerplatz with my friend Katya, who has just as much say in this upcoming election as I do: she’s Ukrainian.
After the rally, we’re planning on grabbing something to eat. That’s event number two for those of you keeping count–probably pizza at the same place we went to last year.
Thirdly, and most importantly, this weekend is Thüringen CSD!
In case you have forgotten, it’s “Christopher Street Days,” or as it is called in the States: Pride. Amusingly, I was looking for information about it, so I googled “CSD Erfurt” and was quite surprised to see that my post from last August was the 2nd link on the results page-the same one where I called CSD in Erfurt “lame.”
Anyhow, we’re going to hit the CSD-Starterparty at ETC/Test It Friday night.
With any luck, I’ll be there all night long.
And if I have any energy left, I’ll go back Saturday for the street festival.
Or a trip to a modern art gallery, if pride is still lame.
have fun. i only wish i was escaping evansville this weekend.
Have fun in EF! And keep me informed about the election. Although I have the feeling they don’t want to let me vote from here. I’m going to check out New Jersey tomorrow.
Take care! Annie
