Today’s been a really good Sunday.
I have no idea why I feel that way: certainly the weather has not been great the last few days. Friday the streets were clear and the weather decent, but Friday night it turned nasty, and when I woke Saturday morning there was about 5 centimeters of incredibly wet and slushy snow.
Funny enough, by evening, most of it had melted.
Not that it mattered, because over night we had maybe 7 or 8 centimeters more of wet slushy snow.
It didn’t deter me: I headed out to Café Laden where I had one cup of coffee and a piece of strawberry cake along with my fresh copy of The Economist. Oddly, despite the poor weather, the café was busier today than it was last Sunday when the weather was pleasant.
Stopping by Café Laden compels me to provide an eye-candy report: one smoking hot gay guy. Too bad he was that: smoking. Blah. It didn’t stop me from looking though.
While I was there a colleague stopped by: she was there to buy ground coffee, which she did, as well as spotting Sweet Chili Tea on the shelf, which immediately appealed to both of us. We both bought boxes, and I am enjoying a pot of tea as we speak—or rather, as I write. It has a tangy kick that hits the spot.
Her appearance was a bit of a kick in the pants, so I left and wandered around Weimar for a bit, with my camera in tow. I posted 10 of the photos to Flickr, one of which is above.
The weather was conducive to cold weather activities—sledding in particular. The steepest hills in the Park an der Ilm were serving their best possible purposes, including some of the longest sledding runs I’ve ever seen—longer than the hill I used to sled on at City Park in Denver as a kid.
The city looked spectacular with the layer of snow. I retraced a number of steps—finding myself looking at things I had seen without snow more recently. I also made a point of going out to see the Soviet Cemetery with its soldiers buried under a blanket of white snow.
Eventually I made my way home where more mundane tasks awaited me: two loads of laundry, dishes in the sink and a meal to cook.
Somehow it all added up to being a perfect Sunday.
The weather here in Indiana has been strange. It was 70 when I woke up this morning. It has rained for several days. Many schools are closed or delayed. The frogs are croaking and the crocus and daffodils are blooming. It is supposed to turn cooler this week. It never snowed much this year, but I don’t miss it. If I never saw snow again it would be too soon. The older I get the more I hate winter.I guess you can tell I am ready for spring. I had never heard of Dan Savage until you mentioned him. I enjoyed reading some of his ideas. Thanks for helping me to find him. I may look for one of his books.
In regards to Dan Savage, I would stay away from his sex advice book.
The Kid and The Commitment are both good, when read in that order. His other book, Skipping to…. is fantastic.
