‘Kinky’ Allowed on Texas Ballot but Not ‘Grandma’

Secretary of State Roger Williams ruled that the musician Kinky Friedman could be listed on the ballot in the November election for governor as Richard “Kinky” Friedman. Mr. Friedman has used the nickname in publishing and on stage. Mr. Williams rejected a request by State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn to be called “Grandma” on the same ballot. Whether that qualified as a nickname was a minor consideration, said a spokesman, Scott Haywood. More important was that it tied in with Ms. Strayhorn’s campaign slogan, “One Tough Grandma.” Sloganeering is prohibited on Texas ballots.
And yet they let a guy named “Bush” on the ballot. There is no accounting for taste!
Sound’s interesting if you could put names like Kinky or Grandma on your ballot but then again I havent tried voting in my entire life
Kind regards from a Kinky Grandma from The Netherlands 😉
Take care !
