Paris for a night…

DeIcingWell, I’m not where I wanted to be right now.

I’m in Paris instead.

In a room whose rack rate is 450€ per night, but the tab (at whatever rate they’re actually paying) is being picked up by my friends at Air France. After my first flight had a mechanical problem, the second flight was delayed due to slot restrictions in Paris. I went from having a very short 50 minute connection to a negative 45 minute connection, all from the comfort of seat 7A on an ERJ 145. I even had a decent seat to watch the plane get deiced!

Quite cozy, if you ask me.

Of course, I was an idiot about something, and I knew it seconds after doing it. I guided the guy who was sitting behind me on the first flight (when he told somebody the flight was cancelled for “security” reasons, I corrected him and said “mechanical” or “technical” was a far better explanation (the plane was broken) in the post 9/11 world) to the transfer desk at Paris/CDG where I was rebooked in a matter of three minutes and given a voucher to this swanky hotel.

He had bigger problems and I didn’t wait, and he didn’t get assigned to the same hotel (as far as I know). Headed to Washington, he had checked his luggage and was probably asking about it—I had, wisely, not checked my luggage and am now able to select from fresh underwear and shirts for tomorrow’s ride.

That said I should have waited. He was tall (seriously tall, like 6’ 6” or so), cute with spiked hair (He had to lean over in the jet, so I could see it quite well), and intelligent (law student).

Ugh. I am an idiot.

I didn’t get his name.

Ugh. I am such a dork.

Anyhow, I am now schedule to fly to New York City tomorrow morning, bright and early, getting there before noon (but probably not through immigration and customs until well after noon).

On the random chance that Mr. Tall Leipzig Law Student ever finds this, please contact me. Du bist geil.
