Travel Thoughts

This summer is going to be quite busy—and it snuck up on me without warning.

I foresee business in New York and Indiana; with additional stops in Lisbon, Berlin, and Munich, plus the wedding in Turkey.

I haven’t really thought much about any of the stops, although it will be my first time in Munich and my first time in Turkey. Munich doesn’t really worry me too much as it’s only going to be a two night stay, as planned at this moment in time, and it’s a big German city—how different can it be from Frankfurt?

Of more interest are the possibilities opened up by visiting Turkey—it makes a major break from all my previous destinations as it will be my first non-Christian nation, with the added bonus that the Bosphorus splits Istanbul in half, putting half the city in what is clearly defined as Europe and half in what is clearly defined as Asia.

Randomly, Armenia seems to be clearly defined as being in Europe, despite the fact that is east of Turkey.

As soon as I realized that I could visit Istanbul, I announced my intention to walk from Europe to Asia, only to find out that pedestrians have been banned, much to my great disappointment. However, I know that I want to visit the Blue Mosque, explore Taksim, and see whatever else the city has to offer.

Plus of course I’ll have an 8 hour bus ride from Istanbul to Ayvalik, for something like 25€.
