Hea|d- or |rt- ache

I’m in Paris for one (short) night.

My train arrived at about 1, and my alarm tomorrow morning goes off at 4:30 so that I can grab a quick shower and head to the airport and to Lisbon.

Unfortunately I acquired a major headache on my way to Paris and so instead of making the most of my time here, I ended up taking a two hour nap at my hotel, which is located as close as possible to the Gare du Nord train station and its RER B platforms—seriously, there is no hotel closer to where I want to be tomorrow morning. Since it was drizzling and cold out, I was only mildly upset with the circumstances.

The nap was splendid and completely refreshing—I woke up with mild and receding headache as well as hunger, but it was still raining and my desire to find a good and relatively inexpensive meal in the vicinity of Gare du Nord vanished: a few bars were busy but the restaurants were empty and I didn’t want to be the sole customer eating at the Chinese restaurant down the street: a lack of customers had to mean something.

I ended up (and please do not shoot me) at McDonalds where I was about to order when I realized that “Big Mac Spar Menu” would probably not be understood here. Fortunately the kid behind the counter spoke enough English to understand what I wanted, and I went away satiated. Not a great meal and not as inexpensive as it ought to have been, but judging by the lack of customers at the other restaurants in the area, probably a wise choice.

Meanwhile, I’m back at my hotel, deterred by the drizzle, and ready for bed.

    Royale with cheese?

Hope you remembered the mayo for the fries.
    See you tomorrow!

  • @Ian: I’m more of a Big-Mac guy, actually….

@samee: the mayo in france is a sauce with crap in it… not very good. See you soon.

I like Mustard on my fries. A Big Mac is a double burger with pureed Thousand Island dressing. That is according to my book of food secrets. To make one just sing the song, “Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun”.
