Shortly after I moved in, I realized that my doorbell is, basically, unreliable—boarding on totally broken.
On the one hand it prevents me from getting unwanted callers who don’t know me, while, on the other, it means that whenever a friend comes over they end up calling me on their mobile to tell me that they’re at the door downstairs and could I please let them in.
What to do…
Hmmm I think you should install a new doorbell since what if your friend forgot his or her mobile phone so they end up either shouting outside to get your attention or wait for someone to open the door.

Pretty sure this is in the realm of your landlord. Our doorbell and intercom quit working and they sent someone to fix it. Didn’t cost us a thing, so I assume it doesn’t even fall under Kleinreperatur, which you often have to subsidize yourself.
