Although I actually have a dark horse candidate for my vacation this fall that’s still under consideration, I want to point out two spots that forced a trip to Alberta, Canada to one of the top spots on my list.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump—with a name like that, I’m not really sure I have to explain why I want to visit. It’s in southern Alberta and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and since I started living in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I’ve sort of made a point of visiting UNESCO sites. More than that, this is a really cool place—it a site where the Blackfoot, a First Peoples (Canadian Speak for Indians/Native Americans), tricked buffalo into jumping off a cliff. The Blackfood would then process the carcasses. It looks like a quite interesting and educational place to visit.

Vulcan – a sort of Star Trek themed community about an hour south-southeast of Calgary. Not that it’s named after planet Vulcan as it came first, but it’s an opportunity to have a drink at Spock’s Bar, visit the visitor’s center, see the space ship, and whatever other attractions the town has to offer. Although my target timeframe means missing the annual Star Trek convention, it looks like fun. I figure it will take an afternoon and Snooker would be envious beyond belief.
