It shouldn’t surprise me, but there was another castle near Weimar that I didn’t know about—close enough that it is on the city bus route, the number 6, north of the city: Schloß Ettersburg.
I made plans to head out there this weekend to take photos in the sunlight, but Friday afternoon, since I was ahead of schedule (a very productive morning at the Weimar Office), I decided to head out right then. I got out there and enjoyed about an hour of spectacular sunlight. The fall colors were even more brilliant and wonderful out there and I found myself falling in love.
Ultimately I would have spent more time at the castle, but the café at the Schloß is exceptionally expensive and its menu lacked any dessert-like items I could eat (keeping in mind my lactose intolerance issues), so as storm clouds gathered, I got on the next hourly bus back to the city center.

Beautiful autumn scenery. Most of the lovely leaves here are gone due to the strong wind. They looked so bare here now.
