10 months onward, I’m still flummoxed by the door to my gym. More than half the time, I try to pull open the door to the gym and it doesn’t work.
This is because it opens inward and despite having lived in Germany for over seven years and going to this gym for 10 months, I still struggle when I find doors to public facilities that open inward.

Nice… I deserve that…
Although I think that in the US doors to public facilities always open outward.
I thought of the same thing when I read this.
(Just like the one in the cartoon by the way.)
In the US they all open out for a reason- fire safety- and I still cannot avoid being irked that they don’t make it mandatory here.
(from the wikipedia article on the cocoanut grove fire – “Fire officials later testified that, had the doors swung outwards, at least 300 lives could have been spared.”)
well..its their way of telling “pushing is the keyword here…you cannot pull us to do anything buddy!”
Cynical Queer – Naturally….
ann – actually it is the US fire code thing that is drilled into me. I can understand if it is difficult to retrofit an older building, but my gym is relatively new — and I suspect the doors could be rehung to swing outward without too much difficulty. But I’m not an expert on door hanging.
prashanth — I have to pull to get out…
exactly…if you pull , you get out! 😛
