That’s so sad, for different reasons.
Excruciating. I feel for both of them. The story about the sister dating a black man was telling, wasn’t it. I couldn’t disagree more with her religious views but the fact is that a world is falling apart for her. Could have been worse, all things considered. None of these people are very good at verbally articulating their feelings so I think it would be smart to move to letters/email.
Martin Wisser – no doubt… lots of things going on in the phone call, and I suspect that we have hints of it, but the soldier is more aware of whats going on…
Michele J — dating a black man… I wish we lived in a post-racist, post-homophobic world. But it takes time. I think the soldier’s inability to articulate his feelings are pretty typical for people at this point in the coming out process — plus this is a conversation that needs to happen verbally — at least in my experience. I couldn’t imagine it happening in writing, unless people were in the same room….
