On (1) why Eurovision matters, and (2) why it had to be in Azerbaijan this year.

I neither got around to reviewing the second Eurovision semi-finals, nor to discussing the Eurovision Finals – badAdam.

I have a good excuse: I was exhausted and any free time I had this weekend, I was asleep. Friday’s super early alarm (4:30, after 5 hours of sleep) in combination with a late evening (home past […]

Celebrating IDAHO – International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia 2012, Berlin

Last Thursday was IDAHO – The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

It was also the day that my American Friend arrived, and so I gave him a walking tour of Berlin, covering all the most important spots — and as we walked past the American Embassy, we spotted the Rainbow-Pride Flag Toga […]

I hope that I see a truly bipartisan US Congress do what the EU Parliament did…

This is truly impressive and inspiring – a multilingual It Gets Better Project video aimed at EU citizens.

Reflections upon Eurovision, the first semifinals

Last night, my American friend and I went out and watched Eurovision, the first semifinal round, at Rausch Gold, where, appropriately, we got a bit tipsy.

I won’t bother explaining exactly what Eurovision is, since I’ve covered the subject before, and because one can read the Wikipedia Eurovision and get the dry basics there, but […]

Hosting a friend…

Last Thursday morning one of my friends arrived for a week long stay — and, consequently, I’ve been playing host and tourist this past weekend.

Exhausted.

And excited for the Eurovision preliminaries that start tomorrow evening!

Hafengeburtstag Hamburg 2012: Partying like a teenager!

Borkum, German Customs Ship

This past weekend I was Nautical Adam – I popped up to Hamburg to see Mr. Letters Home and his family. Completely by chance, it happened to be the Hafengeburstag weekend.

That is, it was the harbor’s birthday – and I’m not really sure why, because it seems pretty young […]

Happy 8th Anniversary to My Blog!

Some how I missed the fact that I converted elmada.com to the blog format 8 years ago Sunday – so I’m celebrating it this evening.

Weeee!

I had three posts that first Thursday…

Spring seems to be here – at least today.

The weather this week has been cool and rainy – and it will continue to be – except for today, when the temperature soared to 27C (80F), I left the office as early as I could and headed out to a park where I read a book and enjoyed the warm out doors.

And just […]

Suddenly I have a free weekend in September.

Due to the fact that I am extremely uncomfortable with the direction that some want the Whiney Expatriate Blogger Meet-Up to take, I am no longer a co-host for WEBMU 2012 in Berlin.

Not yet sure what I will do, but I imagine it will involve sand.

Celebrating 10 Euro Years

A week or so ago I got my first 2€ coin that celebrates 10 years of the Euro.

ECB's info on this special coin.

I have to say that I cannot help but wonder if this is, indeed, the moment to be celebrating the Euro.

That said, I do believe this might be […]
