Saturday afternoon, after I left the warm embrace of Filter, I headed north to visit my ex-expat friends who used to live in Berlin.
As a guest I try to be easy going and non-demanding, going along with whatever my hosts suggest, and so I found myself at Queen Califia’s Magical Circle Garden, an absolutely fantastic whimsical sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle and located in Escondido, one of San Diego’s northern suburbs.
What an amazing place – filled with large, bright, and cheerful sculptures, but each with intricate details and stone work that demands individual admiration and appreciation.
What an amazing gem of a site – well worth the visit.
Fabulous. I love both her and Tinguely.
Cool! I hope we get the chance to check that out someday!
I love Niki–I first learned of her sculptures while living in Hannover. I am so glad you posted this as I am now not too far from SanDiego I’ll have to make a point of visiting this park!
