Seriously.
I spent more than a few hours yesterday morning working on a fairly large project at a nearby coffee shop – made lot a great progress. Came home, worked on some other things, mailed off the results, and forgot about it.
Until I got an email asking me if I’d done anything.
It seems that my work was never saved in the files – I could find traces of my work in the automatic back-up files, but not in the main files.
So I ended up having to re-do a bunch of work this morning—about three hours worth.
I wish I had a decent explanation for what happened – I was editing a LaTeX file in LyX, which has never failed me in the past – I regularly saved the files…
All-in-all, perplexing.
If you were my student, however, I wouldn’t believe you. But since you are my good and trustworthy friend, all I can say is: That sucks.
Thanks for believing me!
At least I could recover about 50% of my work through the back-up files. But I am still puzzled as to how the work was lost in the first place….
