Snooker in Berlin pointed out that today was a fantastic day to see classic automobiles here in Berlin: The Hamburg-Berlin-Klassic, a three day road rally, reached its finish line in Berlin around 3pm.
She and I were there waiting for the first of some 185 automobiles to cross the finish line.
I’m no car expert or enthusiast, but many of the cars were real beauties – with a few fugly ones from the 1970s and 80s thrown in for good measure. Realizing that some of the cars are from my lifetime made me feel a bit that the definition of classic is a bit too generous. No car produced in my lifetime is a classic.
From a photography point of view, the finish line was very poorly place – on the other side of the building from the sun in a plaza that probably stops seeing direct sunlight mid-morning, even at the height of summer. This meant longer shutter times, making many of my photos slightly blurry.
You and I spent our Saturday doing something similar though 6000 miles apart. I do agree that much of what was built in the 1970’s and 1980’s isn’t worth having, but there are exceptions. For example, DeLoreans which were much maligned in their day will probably be something of interest 20 years from now as we get further from their build dates in the early 1980’s.
I spent today at the Ironstone Concours D’Elegance where I saw everything from Fords to Bugattis. You’ll be seeing a few things on my Facebook page soon.
these classic cars remind me of the new website by Jerry Seinfeld comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com It seems that he was influenced by Top Gear? I wanted you to check it out and let me know if you thought the same.
