Whatchamacallit 120: A pillow, or something, from Shetland Island

Wool Thing from Shetland Island

I have no idea what this is, exactly.

It seems to be a small square pillow with a hanging hook. It might actually be a pin cushion.

The tag, which I have never bothered to remove, says:

Hand made from recycled knitwear
By Robyn Robertson,
Eshaness, Shetland

Felt: 100% Pure Shetland Wool

Wash on wool cycle / hand wash,
Re-shape whilst damp and dry flat

On top of the tag is a hand written price tag: £4.50

Thus, I can tell you that I paid £4.50 for it while visiting the Shetland Islands in 2013.

Not sure why I bought it – other than the fact that it has nice patterns in the fabric, is made of wool, and did not actually cost all that much.

It hangs on a door handle in my apartment – it doesn’t actually cushion the door or prevent it from banging into the wall – but it’s a subtle reminder of the Shetland Islands and my fantastic vacation there.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.
