Whatchamacallit 44: Me in 1982

I am the baby of the family – clearly an accident.

Growing up, my Mother had silhouettes of my siblings (as kids) hanging on the wall by her desk – and she wanted one of me as well.

The above was procured at a renaissance faire/festival – at least as I recall it. I want to say the festival was somewhere south of Denver, but that is pure speculation. What I do remember is that they had one of those giant mazes, with plastic dividers, that humans walked through to find the exit. There’s a vague recollection of a rainstorm that disrupted some of the fun, but that could have been any one of a number of festivals.

Clearly it was June 12, 1982 – the evidence on that is specific, in my Mom’s near handwriting. I was 8 years old. The only thing that I am sure of is that I was petrified, scared, and crying during the process. I have no idea why, but what 8-year-old is rational and reasonable at all times? I presume that the successful silhouette included some form of bribery.

This is actually one of two silhouettes of me that I have – the second was made at a much later age, in about 2002, give or take. However, that’s a Whatchamacallit for another day.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.

  • I also have a similar portrait hanging near my doorway of Antonio. It’s a great reminder of what he used to look like. I still recognize him from the silhouette but I can’t recognize you! Maybe that will happen to me the older Antonio gets. Were your eyelashes really that long?

    • Believe it or not, yes — I remember one of my sisters complaining about how unfair it was that my eyelashes were so long.
