Whatchamacallit 83: Continental Divide

Continental Divide by Alex Myers

I just finished Continental Divide, the above book – I wish I could remember where I first learned about the book. It was an instant decision to read it: the book is set in Wyoming – why I wanted to read it – and is about a transgender Harvard freshman who finds himself in Wyoming.

While I have read several transgender-oriented novels before, this is the first one that I am willing to say is exceptionally good.

Honestly, there were Wyoming-aspects of the story that resonated with me – even as I am learning more about the struggles of transgendered individuals. I found myself laughing out loud at a couple points, especially as Wyoming rears its head into the story.

About the only mistake I made was glancing at the acknowledgements – which inadvertently gave away some of the key plot points of the novel – enough to make me wonder how much this particular book is actually a disguised autobiography.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.
