Whatchamacallit 86: Brandenburg Tor as Cookie Cutter

Brandenburg Tor -- Cookie Cutter

I picked up the above cookie cutter at some kind of street market – it is part of my small collection of Brandenburg Tor shaped trinkets, which I have featured twice before: as a brush (day 47) and as a nanoblock construction (day 67).

As a useful cookie cutter, this Brandenburg Tor suffers from excessive detail that makes it nearly impossible to get out of the form without damaging some part of the structure: dough gets caught in the tiny bits of the Quadriga and in slightly wider bases of each column. The one time I used the cookie cutter for its nominal purpose, I had to use toothpicks to get the fiddly bits out.

I love this because of its inherent uselessness: I doubt very many people have ever successfully made cut out cookies using this cookie cutter.

It takes a place of pride among my Brandenburg Tor representations.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.
