Whatchamacallit 112: A Face Mask

Face Mask: Berlin

When it became clear that face masks would become required, it was time to invest.

Some of my investment choices were bad (relegated to the bottom of my bag ‘o masks), some were outstanding. Anything with a metal clip to hold the fabric close to the nose is probably outstanding – built to prevent glasses from fogging up.

This one falls in the middle: It’s not one I would wear in a crowded store – more like the one I keep in my man-purse so that should I need to pop into the post office (and I am the only customer), then I have a decent option.

I like its design – with the Brandenburg Tor outlines and the yellow heart, with the message “Berlin Ick Liebe Dir!” Terrible high German, perfect Berlin German.

Currently I have enough face masks that I can wash them about once a week (given my frequency of wearing them as well).

My initial set of face masks all had strings that became quite entangled when washed, generating a gordian knot that took a good 15 minutes to untie after taking it out of the machine. Thus, I ended up buying several bra washing bags, which I put two or three face masks into each.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.
