Ok, the laptop is functional now. Thanks to help from the überhelpful spea computer man, I am able to browse the web, something that I wasn’t able to do yesterday on this computer. Oddly, it had been configured in such a way that I could telnet to my email account at IU, but not surf the web.
The hardest thing about the laptop is that it too has a German keyboard, and although I previously said I switched the keyboard to the US style, I’m going to keep it German-it has more useful keys on it, like the ü, ö, €, °, §, and ß!
Keeping the keyboard German will no doubt help in your learning the language and how you will interact with it. Not to mention a $ key is more useful here than there. You forgot the key. 🙂 This is sure some adventure you’re going on.
Indeed, I did forget the key. But the $ is there. It would be nice if the British Pound key was there — that is not easy to enter on the laptop.
