Back in Deutschland

I am back in Germany.

CQ and I had a splendid Sunday, including a last minute substitution in of The Cradle of Humankind—a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After having had a healthy dose of local paranoia (each house has a large wall around it, often with electric fencing on top; the malls all are inside walls with lots of security), we opted to head to the airport early—and get checked in.

In the process, CQ and I got some of the very best seats onboard a KLM 747 Combi aircraft—exit row 9, right behind business class. The flight departed Jo’burg 10 minutes early and landed 30 minutes early in Amsterdam. Happily, at least for me, the flight was uneventful: I slept from about 12:30 until 7 or 7:30, waking only a few times for a few minutes. There is no time zone shift during the European summer for flights to and from South Africa.

We parted ways after landing—I headed to baggage claim and my all day train ride home, CQ to the showers whilst waiting for his connecting flight to the States. Happily my train ride was pretty much uneventful, and I got home without any trouble whatsoever.

Expect more on the trip over the next few days.
