Cleaning Up

It’s time for my annual clean-up.

Actually, the time is almost over. Sunday I fly to Paris, spend an afternoon exploring the city before flying onward to Indiana on Monday.

Before I can leave, however, I’ve had to pack up all my winter clothes and do a general cleaning. It always amazes me how much stuff I can acquire over the course of a year, so it is with a great deal of relief that I start throwing stuff away. Today, for example, I finally threw away an old pair of shoes that had seen better days, as well as put out for recycling a number of old documents that I haven’t looked at in at least six months.

Clutter is the bane of my existence.

I’m trying to get ahead of schedule so that I can leave tomorrow and spend the night in Halle, the birthplace of Handle and home to a Beatles Museum.

I’m doing this because my preferred train connection doesn’t exist over the weekend: due to major construction at the Erfurt Hauptbahnhof, the high speed trains do not operate from Weimar tomorrow; and no trains at all go west from Weimar. Although the trains do go east from Weimar, the schedule is, accordingly, screwed up thus creating a tighter-than-I-desire connection on Sunday—so I’m spending the night in a hotel in a city I’ve never been in—other than the train station.

  • Seems to be plenty of construction on the rails any time you travel. *shrugs*

    Yay, Halle! I lived there for 3 years. If Handel and the Beatles don’t keep you entertained, be sure to check out the salt museum (it’s as exciting as it sounds). Also, be sure to take a tram to Neustadt (particularly if you are feeling too happy and need to be brought down a bit).

    I’m trying really hard to remember the name of the gay bar I always ended up at… Blue Velvet, maybe? Fabulous drag shows, back in the day. 🙂

  • Will you be spending most of the summer in Indiana?

  • Oh god I hate clutter since once everything piles up you feel overwhelmed and lazy to cleaned it up

    Here’s hoping that no one on your plane has TB. {SNORT}

  • cq: i don’t think its that bad, that I can remember!

    Jul: Thanks for the tips, I wish I hadn’t had the headache, but it was all I could do to make it back to the hotel before collapsing in bed.

    Jerry: Much of the summer, yes.

    Chase: Clean-up festivals are often a lot of fun, and generate a lot to recycle, so I can feel good about the environment.

    disenchanted: That asshole lawyer needs to be strung up by his balls as punishment. And the wire used should be rusty barbed wire. He is the perfect example of what’s wrong with the legal industry in the USA today.

    My goodness, you fly to the US more in one year than I do in one decade. You don’t really live in Germany, you just visit 🙂

  • j: sometimes I feel like that’s true–especially the last two months. I’m now stable and not going anywhere until mid-July. Of course I am in the land of air conditioning!
