Candace Gingrich

Candace GingrichTonight I headed to campus to see a famous person: Candace Gingrich.

Ms. Gingrich, brother of Newt, was in town to promote supporting the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act (S. 1105). The bill, recently passed by the house, is headed to the Senate and this event was designed to encourage citizen support, in the form of written letters, to Senators Bayh and Lugar of Indiana.

We were jokingly told that we wouldn’t be allowed to leave the room until we turned in letters for the HRC to forward to the Senators.

This was the first time in over three years that I’ve actually bothered to write a letter to an elected official, or otherwise do something political. (Indeed earlier today I told somebody who tried to get me to sign a petition concerning global warming that I didn’t think signing a petition would help. I did this without breaking my stride.)

With luck I will get a response from the Senators once they receive the letters—for I actually believe individual letters can make a world of difference.

I wrote my Congressman about this bill. Rep. Brad Ellsworth informed me he couldn’t vote for the bill. It seems it gave support for lifestyles his family values couldn’t support. Well, Mr. Ellsworth I voted for you but I won’t make that mistake again. Seems you voilate my values.
Lugar wouldn’t vote for this bill even if we promised to remove the huge bags from under his eyes free of charge.

  • I wasn’t actually sure how Ellsworth was better than the man he defeated.

However, I am more hopeful when it comes to Lugar. He’s not a complete lunatic.

  • […] but I realized last night on my way to bed that I have had three distinctly gay posts in a row: Candace Gingrich, gay videos, and Indy […]
