Laundromats

I had to stop by a Laundromat today—and I realized something fantastic:

It is possible to do more than one load of laundry at a time.

I also realized that, if I needed to, I could dry laundry while washing another load—the circuit breakers would not flip.

  • LOL. Yep. Laundromats are good that way. Washeterias (i.e., the Louisiana version), however, had huge problems — such as the fact that all the dudes who work in the carbon black factories do their laundry there. I ruined many a white shirt in Louisiana before I broke down and bought a washing machine.

  • Thanks for bringing back the memory of the laundry in the basement of Hill Hall at the University of Wyoming. I remember that day when the dryers were drying clothing a little *too* well and the fire department was called.

If I remember correctly, the fire alarms in that building were an electronic version of the boy who cried wolf.

  • everything in our flat dries on racks and radiators. oh how i miss a good space-hogging american dryer.

a laundrette is also a good place to read and, at one time, i was convinced it was a good pick-up place. as a matter of fact, there was a place that was half laundromat and half bar. above the liquor shelf was a grid of LED lights that would indicate whether your washer number had finished. it was beautiful and motivated me to have the cleanest clothes on the block.
