Colditz

Colditz Exihbit

Ah, such understatement.

This was the opening sentence at an exhibit about the Polish experience during World War II, and, I have to confess, I laughed out loud the second I read it.

The Colditz Castle was well worth the trip–a bit remote, but it was impressive seeing the tunnel that the officers built under the chapel and imagining what would have happened had the glider they built had actually flown (the war ended before they could try it).

I thought bombing a country back to the iron age and murdering its innocent non-Christian citizens marked the high point of international relations. Silly me!

Oh, wait… this is the basis for modern US foreign policy.

Forget, history, doomed to repeat, etc.

I had Gary read the little pix in this entry. His response: “Duh!”
    It really *IS* horribly understated.
