Cingular

I quit using Cingular at least two years ago, maybe three–so it came to my great surprise to get the following email–not once, but twice, so far. It appears to be legit… e.g. there are no links in the email that suggest phising for information.

Any suggestions?

Somebody want to bitch at Cingular for me?

Dear Valued Customer,

We have noticed that the credit card used for the automatic payment of account number XXXXXX is about to expire or has expired.

To update your credit card information, go to Cingular.com and log into My Account. You can also change your Auto Pay method by entering a different credit card or even scheduling automatic deductions from your bank account.

Please do not reply to this e-mail, as it will go to an unmonitored mailbox.

Anytime I get an unsolicited request for account information, I ignore it. I just assume it’s fishing.

  • I doubt this one is phishing… it is about time for the credit card I used with Cingular to expire–even though I don’t have that credit card any more and even though I switched to T-Mobile eons ago. It tells me to go to cingular.com, but it doesn’t actually link it… that reaks of a legitimate email.

I quit Cingular a while back but I haven’t received an email like that. Does anyone have suggestions on a good cell provider in British Columbia? 🙂
