Weimar Changes

Weimar Berkaer Bahnhof

Two months out of Weimar and a lot has changed.

For one, the nearby REWE grocery store is completely reorganized for the second time in a year, and this time far more than the previous time. It’s actually highly annoying. Last time I got lucky and found the chicken right away, this time I have no clue where to find it.

Secondly, a Burger King is going into Weimar, and not in the outskirts, but right smack dab between Theatreplatz and Goeteplatz. To this I must apologize to all Germans. I am so sorry that such a terrible example of Amerikan Kapitalism is invading your beautiful cultural capital. It would have been better to put in a bratwurst stand or a local bagel shop.

Finally, the bar at the Weimar Berkaer Bahnhof finally opened. I haven’t been there yet, but I watched through the windows for two or three months as it was carefully put together.

Beyond that, when I say a lot has changed, I lie. But these are significant changes for me. Everything else in Weimar is gradual. It reminds me of a stereotypical British chant I read about recently:

What do we want?

GRADUAL CHANGE!

When do we want it?

IN DUE COURSE!

Time in Weimar moves slowly if what I’ve outlined seems like major changes.
