It’s amazing how difficult it can be to close an account with the people at VR Bank Weimar.
I regret ever opening an account with them.
Miserable Dienstleistung indeed.

Adamo, Hi! I can easily understand. The VR Bank views thee as a beloved friend and is loathe to end their relationship with thee. Don’t forget: u da MAN!
Does VR stand for “Volksrepublik”?
I don’t know if it works the same in VR Bank Weimar, but when I was about to finish my semester I went to my bank (Postbank) and told them “I’m leaving Weimar tomorrow and I want to close the account ’cause I’m not going to need it anymore”. They asked for an account number to send my money (although I took nearly all my money the day before) in a bank transfer to my Spanish bank and that was all.
Maybe if you tell them “I’m leaving Germany NOW, close the f****** account!” they’ll do something.
Somehow I would fail to be surprised if you said they want you to show up in person at the Weimar branch to close the account. *shrugs*
Go with Deutsche Bank! dunno much about bank policy there, but I do know that when you come to America you can use Bank of America ATMs fo free
good luck
Hi Kae Lani! See my follow up – I switched to Deutsche Bank at the end of June. The Bank of America feature is nice, but… there aren’t a lot of Bank of Americas where I tend to visit.
