I’ve always thought it was a bit inappropriate to take vacation during the first six months of employment.
On the other hand, I just found out that we are only allowed to carry over 8 vacation days into the next calendar year.
So now I have a conundrum: I will have a total of 15 days at the end of the year which means that I have to use, or I will lose, 7 days.
So beyond a trip to Balkonia (and I don’t have one), do any of you have decent low cost suggestions for getaways?
Cheap flights/packages from Berlin to:
Mallorca
Costa Brava, Catalonia, Barcelona, etc. Culture and coast.
Egypt.
Sicily.
Algarve.
Eastern Europe: I’ve done Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw in October-December in various years. There are a lot fewer tourists and prices reflect that. Granted it’s a bit cooler than Germany, so dress warmly.
Hoboken, New Jersey.
Weimar. I heard it’s pretty there and you don’t even have to take a flight.
Michele J – Those are more expensive than I want to do…
heather – great suggestions, but I’m heading to an island.
Otto – interesting choice – but plane tickets to North American aren’t cheap this time of year.
Anki – not in November.
We took one REALLY cheap package trip to Malta a few years back. It will be a bit warmer than DE, it will be cheaper because of the off season, and even though it isn’t really paradise, the island is English-speaking and pleasant enough.
Other than that… if you insist on an island and wish to avoid airfare… book Rügen. But prepare to have your cockles frozen off.
I’ve spent about 160€ on plane tickets to an Island: Great Britain. I have a place to stay for free…
Is there an OBI nearby? or perhaps an Ikea?
Excellent idea — I will camp out in a different department each day…
