Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh…. Saturday

Every weekend since January 8 and 9, I have either been packing for travel, travelling, preparing for a guest, hosting a guest, sick, or, in the case of last weekend, working hard on a project with a tight deadline.

This weekend: nothing stressful planned.

I took Saturday easy—doing chores that I’ve let go for three months due to a lack of time. This included vacuuming the far side of my bedroom, washing three loads of laundry at home, and… going to the laundromat.

The laundromat was necessary because I have an enormous quilt that will not, under any circumstance, fit into the washing machine at home. Instead I walked to the nearest (known) Waschsalon, put 4€ in the machine and set it free.

Only to notice that there was an ashtray.

I hoped for the best. Unfortunately the maintenance lit up a cigarette and I was annoyed – but he only smoked one – and I breathed a sigh of relief when he left. I managed to make it the remaining 40ish minutes of washing, plus 20 minutes of drying, without anybody else lighting up. In fact, some woman, who was starting her laundry, lit a cigarette just as I took my quilt out of the dryer and started walking out the door.

The quilt, albeit still damp, made it safely out of the Waschsalon without being impregnated with cigarette smoke – and hopefully it will not need to be washed again for a long time. I’ll have to look for a Waschsalon that doesn’t allow smoking.

At the moment I don’t really have anything planned for today—Sunday will be a day of rest, at least for me. Berlin’s Half-Marathon is underway, which encourages me to stay away from the parts of town that host the race.

An excuse to grab a book and head to parts of Berlin I’ve never visited before.

Maybe I’ll find a cool café.
