Auf Wiedersehen.

One of the hard parts of being an expat is that the people you are closest to – often other expats – are the most likely to pack up and move.

This very week two expat friends are going repat: moving back to their native lands. One is a fellow blogger and American, the other is a work colleague and Indian.

If these were the only two losses I were going to experience, or already experienced, this summer, that would be a typical summer.

Unfortunately others are repating or moving to new locals to continue their expat adventures. Plus when you add in the Germans I know who are about to become expats, it all amounts to the fact that I’m losing a lot of friends this summer.

To each and every one I know who’s leaving Germany this summer:

I miss you.

  • But life is progress. Share in their excitement. New homes, new challenges, new opportunities for them. You recently moved, and it changed your life for the better, didn’t it? Be happy for them. Besides, this is 2011: nobody is far from anybody anymore.

    • True fact. I am sad mainly because I’m losing playmates in Berlin. I need somebody who I can watch bad TV with, drink wine, and have fun.

      Applications being accepted.
