Whatchamacallit 31: Vase from Weimar

Deckelvase aus Moccarot

Down in Weimar there’s a cute ceramics shop, moccarot.

After having admired their work over the years – and having purchased their work as presents for friends, I finally bought something for myself the last time I was in Weimar, back in July 2018.

It seems like it was a long time ago, so doing the research and discovering that it was just shy of two years ago surprises me. The purchase was notable because the woman who sold it to me did not know how to work the credit card machine and so it took more than two weeks before the money was taken from my account: instead of doing it electronically, they had to submit the piece of paper I signed to the bank.

I actually had to chase them down to find out what was going on – I’m that kind of honest consumer.

That said, the receipt is for 59€, but the website lists them for 35€ — so I wonder if I bought something else at the same time or if they’ve lowered the price by 24€ over the last 2 years.

Most of the time the vase sits on the table next to my dining room table, collecting dust. However, during the Covid-19 crisis, I’ve been buying more fresh flowers so that I have something pretty to look at while I home office. I really like the design (which isn’t listed for sale on the website) – with the long stems and bunch of leaves at the top.

Whenever I look at the vase, even empty, it makes me happy—it’s a sturdy design. With the top on it holds one single flower dramatically. Take the lid off and a dozen roses fill it beautifully.

I think that once the crisis is over, I will make a point of buying fresh flowers more often. They add a certain je ne sais quoi to life.

During the Covid-19 crisis, I am going to try and make a point of writing a blog post about an object in my home.

We’ll see how long this lasts.
