Photo Friday Entry (#87) | elmada.com Home

And yes, this is from the recent Jena Today. It fits Photo Friday perfectly.

Heute Abend

Wow, another late night. This time the office was mourning the departure of a colleague. More than a dozen of us gathered around the table at Zapata, Jena’s vegetarian restaurant.

Alas this means my blog entry will be unusually short.

Tomorrow is a Weimar Office kind of day.

It’s almost midnight

…and I just got home.

That means two days in a row of sucky blog entries.

Tonight was fun though–I went out to dinner with colleagues to Jena’s vegetarian restaurant, Zapata’s. I had a nice mushroom risotto and two hefeweißen.

Bedtime…

Jena Today

This morning I headed over to Jena to meet some people from Armenia. It was a splendid meeting and I am still excited about my upcoming trip. The culture shock is going to be incredible though.

On my way back to the train station I managed to notice a vegetarian restaurant which prompted me to […]

what was that?! huh?

I was stupid tonight.

I had about twenty minutes to kill, so I stopped in Einstein’s, a bar in Jena, for a beer.

As I walked into the bar, I had just purchased two English language novels and talked to somebody in English on the phone, so when I sat down at the bar, I […]

Jena: Reincarnation Valley

There is a long article about Jena, Germany, in this week’s Economist (11 February 2005), part of a survey on Germany:

If you seek Paradise, go to Jena. The bosses of this city in the eastern German state of Thuringia, two-and-a-half hours south of Berlin, may have been a little ambitious when they named the […]

Jena, Today.

Schneewelle

There was quite a storm that blew threw Jena today–from start to finish it took about ten minutes.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this storm is that it was the first time I’ve ever seen a full snow storm combined with lightening and thunder (seen and heard).

[…]

Stilbruch

Stilbruch – cute waiter

Originally uploaded by elmada.

Despite the freezing cold, yesterday I left the office for lunch. I left because the cafeteria menu didn’t interest me.

I headed down to Stilbruch for the first time in a long time. I was proof reading something and needed a space away from the […]

Fußball und Polizei

So, Saturday was Fußball day—I headed to Jena to meet with office colleagues for the football (fine: soccer for the Americans) match between FC Rot Weiß Erfurt and FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

I was told that there would be 600 police in attendance in order to prevent any problems, and based upon my personal observation, […]

Exhausted

Jena: Lobeda West

Originally uploaded by elmada.

After a long day at the office, this evening we had a cook-out down by the river in Lobeda.

Lobeda is interesting because it’s a collection of apartment blocks that had been built by the East German Government-and they are massively ugly.

I would write more […]
